Evaluation

Evaluation Timeframe

The submission deadline for your project is this Friday (2nd March). From this point you will be working on your evaluation. A good way of doing ths is as a documentary - the "making of" your project. Remember, you have to cover the following questions in detail:
  1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
  3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
You are marked on the following areas:
  1. understanding of the forms and conventions used in the productions.
  2. understanding of the role and use of new media in various stages of the production.
  3. understanding of the combination of main product and ancillary texts.
  4. understanding of the significance of audience feedback.
  5. skill in choice of form in which to present the evaluation.
  6. ability to communicate.
  7. use of digital technology or ICT in the evaluation.
I would use your blog to help you structure this. You could start with an overview of the project, going back to summer of last year, and the original choices you made. You could use footage from videos you looked at and stills of covers/ adverts which inspired you. For question 1 and marking 1, you could link this to your developing ideas (test footage etc.) explaining how your work developed. This would be the first third of your film. You could talk about how you used the web (as well as your blog) to research and demonstrate the ways in which you used Photoshop/ Premiere to create your products, thus covering question 4/ marking 2. It would be useful to include comparisons of work in progress, both video and print. To cover question three, you would do a comparison of your various products and include some vox-pops/ audience feedback, which would cover question 2 and marking 3. You could then present a response to this, as a direct commentary yourself, reflecting on what you might have done differently (and even, if you have time, offering a couple of alternatives). This would cover question 3 and marking 4. Doing a good job on this would cover marking 5-7.
I would suggest that the documentary should last about 10-15 minutes. I would also suggest that you do a "director's commentary" of your video, which explains how and why you did certain things.

These two artefacts would form part of your evaluation, along with your presentation, your blog entries and your interview with me.

Interviews will be scheduled during the week beginning Monday 6th March. Whilst I am interviewing members of the group, you will work on your presentations. Presentations will take place during the week beginning Monday 13th March and will last for about 15 minutes each. These will also be based on the four questions above.
