Tasks this week

Your aim this week should be to really get to grips with your planning. This means making sure that you have clearly communicated your intentions for your video. It should include the elements highlighted previously such as:
  • Treatment for your project (summary of pitch, practicalities etc)
  • Synopsis for video
  • Storyboard for video - this should include the lyrics/ song timing and explain how the piece will come together
  • Animatic - scan your storyboard and use video-editing software to produce a very rough version of your video
  • Production schedule
  • Initial test footage
  • Location scouting
  • Call sheets
The more information, the better. Remember - you should also aim to mention the various aspects linked to your exam and evalution. For example:
  • Digital Technology - how have you used this so far (blog, research, test shots/ footage)? How has it helped? How have you done this better than at AS?
  • Creativity - where have your ideas come from? How have they developed? Which ideas are "truly" creative? How are you being more imaginative/ challenging than you were at AS?
  • Research and planning - how does your research link with your developing planning? How have you improved at this since last year?
  • Post-production - what issues can you already identify which might be a factor during editing? What are you going to do that you couldn't do in Y12?
  • Using conventions from real media texts - what stuff are you going to do based on actual examples of music videos you've looked at? What "rules" are you going to follow (for example, editing, use of camera etc.) How are you going to make sure your video looks more like a video compared to your title sequence?
  • Genre - how will your work link to other examples of products from the same genre?
  • Narrative - how will you structure your "story"? Why?
  • Representation - how are you going to communicate a representation of your singer/ song/ band? How will this be positive (or negative)?
  • Audience - how will you make sure that you are prioducing work which is appropriate for your TA? What evidence do you have?
  • Media language - what particular techniques (camera angles, shots, mise-en-scene) are you planning to use? Why?

Remember - the evaluation questions link to these:
  • How are you using/ subverting forms/ conventions of real media products. This links to Creativity, Research/ Planning and Conventions of Real Media Texts (exam 1a) and Genre/ Narrative (exam 1b)
  • Effective combination of main and ancillary products. This links to all five areas of 1a and pretty much all five of 1b - you should be showing now the logic of your planning for your digipak/ advert
  • Audience feedback - you should be trialling your ideas with members of your TA. This links to DT (in terms of delivery), R&P and CoRMT, since all are linked to audience engagement. This also links to Genre (negotiated with and expected by audience), Narrative (what kind of stories would your audience engage with) and Representation (how will your audience think about how they and their band are shown in your work).
  • Use of new media technologies - links to most of 1a and ML in 1b: how have you used hardware/ software so far? How are you planning to use it?
Obviously, you will not write about all of these all the time. But you should make sure that during your planning you mention each aspect at some point.
